2008-11-15 Hockey Today - International Herald Tribune

Hockey Today

The St. Louis Blues returned promising rookie defenseman Alex Pietrangelo to his junior team on Thursday. The 18-year-old, chosen fourth overall in this years draft, played eight games with St. Louis, recording an assist and an even plus-minus rating. The Blues couldve used Pietrangelo in nine games before his season counted as a full year. Instead, hell be with the Niagara Ice Dogs of the Ontario Hockey League.

Owen Nolan returned from the injured list after missing five straight games and eight of 11 because of a leg injury and posted two assists in the Minnesota Wilds 4-0 home victory over the Phoenix Coyotes on Thursday night. To make roster room for Nolan, the Wild sent center Krys Kolanos to their AHL affiliate in Houston.

2008-11-15 Man pleads guilty in coyote trafficking case -

Earl Hunt, 67, recently pleaded guilty in Henry County to two counts for the unlawful sale or shipment of wild animals, the state Department of Natural Resources said Friday in a statement.

NEW CASTLE, Ind. - A man charged last year with shipping coyotes to other states so they could be hunted by dogs in fenced-in areas has pleaded guilty to two felony counts.

An investigation by the DNR found that Hunt sold coyotes trapped in Indiana to dog-running facilities in other states where hunters would use dogs to chase the animals in fenced-in areas.

2008-11-15 Corpus Christi, TX Wild Hogs On The Loose

Gould added that animal control mostly concentrates on domestic animals, like dogs and cats. His employees are not trained to track wild animals. For now, there is not much they can do. Also, their equipment is not designed to capture a 200 pound hog.

Unfortunately, stopping the problem will not be an easy task. Animal control officials said if it was cats and dogs, they might be able to do something, but a herd of feral hogs will be more difficult.

2008-11-15 Deer hunters urged to go wild on pigs - Muskegon News - The Muskegon Chronicle Online - Michigan Newspaper

Officials with the state departments of Natural Resources and Agriculture want hunters to kill feral swine because the large animals, which can grow to 400 pounds, are carriers of disease. Wild pigs also wreak havoc on agricultural crops, displace native animals and damage wildlife habitat.

Dr. Steven Halstead, Michigans state veterinarian, said wild pigs are common carriers of pseudorabies, which can cause sudden death in cats and dogs and sicken cattle and sheep. The virus does not cause illness in humans.

2008-11-05 Election Parties: Berlin goes wild for Obama - Nachrichten English-News - WELT ONLINE

Hula hoop dancers and hot dogs--all across Berlin, people went wild for Obama this Election Night 2008. With the vast majority of attendees rooting for Obama, most parties could more accurately be called Obama parties than election parties.

At the Bertelsmann party there was (sweet) popcorn, hot dogs, hamburgers, and cardboard cutouts of the candidates. Numerous well-known German politicians and media types crowded the invitation-only party, with the overflow crowds enjoying the view from the roof. Obama swept the informal poll taken at that party: McCain received 5 votes to Obamas 106.

At numerous large parties across the city, Berliners, American expats, and America fans gathered to take in the excitement, all through the night. - Obama McCain Election Night Berlin John Kornblum Bertelsmann Victory Column Mitte Welt Online

2008-11-05 Vancouver games this week: A critical home stand

Amazingly, the Wild are doing all this without franchise player Marian Gaborik, who has missed eight straight games and is not on the road trip. The international man of lower-body injury mystery is also the subject of trade speculation because he hasnt signed a contract extension. There is widespread belief Gaborik will be traded if the Wild get a legitimate offer for him. He wants top dollar even though he has chronic "lower-body" problems called a groin.
