The amazing part of Lances story isnt the fact hes coming back - walking now and even trying to run - but more likely that he is alive. Three weeks ago, Little Lance was found late at night at 98th Avenue and Lawlor Street. Neighbors had come out to see what was going on after they heard gunshots and a dog howling. They found Lance near the body of a larger female dog that also had been shot.
The Tybee Dog Park is no more, but the Tybee Bark Parks are taking its place. Two dog parks are now on the north end of Tybee Island, near the Rivers End Campground and RV Park. The Small Bark Park is for dogs less than 20 pounds, while the Large Bark Park is for larger dogs or small dogs who think they are large dogs.
Mayor Jason Buelterman will lead a Leash Cutting Ceremony for the two parks on rd, from 10: . This celebration will be a dedication of the two new parks, rather than a grand opening, as the City and several volunteers and organizations on the island will be working together to add furnishings, a gazebo, artwork, and doggie fountains. In preparation for this weeks event, the City is obtaining and placing directional signs to help people find their way to the parks.
The consultants said that if the dog park is approved, it would contain shaded areas, drinking water stations, benches or bleachers, clean-up materials, etiquette signs, open spaces, and natural visual barriers. With a greater investment it could include separate enclosures for large and small dogs, agility training stations, and wash stations.
Residents from nearby neighborhoods said that they purchased their home when BF Phillips was designed to be a small neighborhood park, and they were uncomfortable with the plans changing without their input.

Know your destination ahead of time. Although human shelters often refuse animals, motels will probably accept dogs, cats, and other small animals in an emergency. Do not plan to leave animals unsupervised in a car; they can suffer from heatstroke once the temperature rises above 70F, even if water is provided and the windows are slightly open.
Place small animals in secure carriers, and keep dogs leashed. Frightening sounds and unfamiliar surroundings might make them bolt and get strangled. Take water and food bowls, your animals favorite toys or blankets, a towel, and enough food for at least a week.

Ivan Petrovich Pavlov (1849-1936), the Nobel laureate scientist, experimented with dogs to demonstrate the power of conditioned reflexes. When he was about to feed them, he rang a bell and the hungry pooches salivated at the sight of food. Eventually he rang the bell without showing them food. The dogs still salivated because the conditioned reflex to the bell was all they needed for a physical response.

Arnaud Sow, a University of Oklahoma graduate student from France, processes a sample for laser fabrication. This type of research allows engineers and researchers to make small nanoengineered materials.
Nanotechnology is the creation of very small materials. Nano refers to a nanometer, which is a millionth of a millimeter. You need the highest-powered optical microscope to see nanotechnology features, McCann said.
Though the notion of cancer-sniffing dogs might sound like quack science to some, research has been under way since the late 1980s, the most compelling of which was published in the journal Integrative Cancer Therapies in 2006.
Dogs can smell cancer, researchers say, and a University of Oklahoma professor hopes he can someday build a machine with the same discriminating talent. The device itself may be at least 10 years away. The research hopefully will make early cancer detection more accurate and common, said lead researcher Patrick McCann, a professor of electrical and computer engineering at OU. Many early detection
