Wellington Heights Secondary School hosted its 2008 commencement on Friday night, and shone the spotlight on a large class of deserving graduates. WHSS valedictorian Scott McIntosh began his address by suggesting life can mean two things, a board game or the crazy journey the graduates are on. He said the two are quite similar, with many steps forward mixed with a few steps back, and always some twists and turns. He said the class is no longer two communities of Arthur or Mount Forest, just adults who graduated from Wellington Heights looking back at the firm foundation the school provided. Look at your parents and your teachers and say a big thank you, Scott said. They helped make us into the extraordinary people we are today. He spoke of the many successes the graduating class enjoyed throughout four years at WHSS, www.mountforest.com

On a lot of NFL teams, Cassel, Green-Ellis, and Woods would have been shown the door on pedigree alone prior to getting their opportunity to play leading roles, but thats not how coach Bill Belichick and vice president of player personnel Scott Pioli do business. I think it is a credit to Scott, your scouts, and that part of the operation to keep players like that in your system," said Belichick. "And theres been a lot of those functional opportunities, too. If certain things hadnt happened, then BenJarvus might not have gotten the opportunity. That has been true of other players in other years and other situations where it has maybe taken longer or those opportunities didnt come as quickly, or sometimes they did like Brady. Bill Belichick is the genius, or in these parts The Genius. Hes a terrific coach, but hes not running the team by himself. Personnel director Scott Pioli has been masterful over the years in finding the right players who function the Belichick way. It all starts with Kraft, who hired the right people and gave them a simple order: You thought the Bills had injury problems The Pats were so banged up that they were longing for Sammy Morris, who couldnt carry the groceries when he was in Buffalo. New England tapped into its depth chart for BenJarvus Green-Ellis, which sounds like a Wall Street law firm rather than an NFL running back. www.buffalonews.com
