RIVERSIDE - Investigators are having a difficult time acquiring information from a Los Angeles County Fire Department division chief accused of animal cruelty against a puppy, authorities said.

Riverside County sheriffs investigators said they have tried for several days to phone Glynn Johnson at home and get more information about the incident but have been unsuccessful.

Deputies said witnesses told them Johnson beat the puppy, owned by a neighbor, with his hands.

The owner took the puppy to a veterinarian, where it was euthanized, according to a news release.
