2008-05-17 Parvo Scare At Mobile Pet Store - Alabama Mobile Dog Store Pets Spca

I am so sorry that she lost her dog; but, we need to let this be a wake-up call. Pet Stores get their animals from puppy mills and puppy mills need to be shut down. The conditions that the breeding animals live in are horrendous, and as this case shows, the resultant litters have health problems. A puppy shouldnt even be taken from its mother and littermates before 8 weeks, much less be up for sale.

I want to know that Im buying a puppy from someone I feel I can call and talk to if Im having some kind of issue," Stang said. "Its a long time commitment. "

But local breeders say the Internet is actually making it easier for unethical breeders to thrive and harder for you to get your moneys worth.

2008-05-10 The Daily Examiner - Philly Mag

Gov. Ed Rendell will propose a new bill that targets commercial dog breeders like the Lancaster County puppy mills featured on Oprahs show last month. The bill would double cage sizes, require solid flooring and 24-hour access to water basic necessities that many of the dogs are denied most of their lives. Rendell is hopeful that Oprahs support will help the bill pass. (

2008-05-02 Brick Times - Council Backs Off On Pet Store Regulations

The reasons for barring cat and dog sales at pet shops, Jersey Shore Animal Center members said, are many. At their work at the shelter, they claimed they have pet owners come in, seeking help after purchasing animals from pet shops. Members talked about puppy mills - pet shops with poor, overcrowded conditions selling dozens of animals - and said they have been denounced by the Humane Society of the United States. They cited arrests made for animal cruelty at so-called puppy mills.

2008-04-26 Contact 5 Investigates: Puppy Heartbreak - WPTV NewsChannel 5

Floridas Attorney General opened an investigation into Puppy Palace back in 2006. Without admitting wrongdoing, Puppy Palace paid usd. 10,000 in legal fees and entered into an Assurance of Voluntary Compliance. Among other things, the agreement requires Puppy Palace to check on their breeders to make sure they are in good standing with U. S. Department of Agriculture.

To the cases you presented me, I would say those cases were congenital defects. Puppy Palace went above and beyond the requirements of the Puppy Lemon Law. In each of the cases with a congenital defect, the consumer signed a 48-hour waiver. Therefore, under the Puppy Lemon Law, the consumers were not entitled to a refund. However, Puppy Palace refunded the consumer the purchase price of the dog. "

2008-04-15 WAVY TV 10 - News, Weather, Traffic, Sports for Hampton Roads, Virginia - North Eastern North Carolina - New pet store draws crowds, but not the kind they had in mind

My problem is with the business of selling dogs and cats when there are plenty of shelters and plenty of responsible breeders," says Karen Lauderback, an animal shelter volunteer, protesting Puppyville with a group of other volunteers and SPCA workers.

Protestors say Puppyvilles dogs come from a commercial outfit they call a "puppy mill" that mistreats animals. But they admit theyve never spoken with Puppyvilles store owner or been inside the store.

We want people to adopt more pets, but specifically, if they feel they have a purebred puppy, we hope they would seek out a hobby breeder and see the puppys living conditions and meet the puppys parents," says Lauterback.

2008-04-05 Oprah Puppy Mill Show - Anti Breeder Or Pro Dog Welfare

Oprah -- thank you so much for the exposure you have given to what is going on with the puppy mills in our country. My husband and I have always adopted our furry children (cats and dogs) from local humane shelters. We encourage others to do the same. And if someone wants a purebred dog, all they have to do is find the appropriate animal rescue shelters for that specific breed. So many sweet. absolutely adorable animals need to find homes from the "orphanages" in our country -- NOT from puppy mills and pet shops/stores. I have sent a memo to our local government representatives here in the State of Tennessee (thanks to Wayne Pacelle with the USHS with a wonderful prepared message to enable ease of sending such a message). People like you, Lisa Ling, (the other fellow, sorry, cannot
