I have been in the dog and cat rescue, feral cat spay and release programs and general care of abandoned companion animals for overt twenty years. A one time non-prophet alternative animal shelter provider, I know the importance of adoption. President elect Obama would be doing a lot more than acquiring a companion dog for his children. If he chose shelter adoption over purchasing a purebred dog, perhaps others thinking of adding a new pet to their family, might be persuaded to do the same. Even if a purebred was chosen , each breed has 100s of rescue groups out there, puppies, adult and senior dogs. even though immunizations, spay or neuter would not be an issue for the President, these things are provided by the rescue groups.
