I really want to treat this as a homicide because possibilities do exist that it will remain one," said Lt. Phil Wowak, head of the sheriffs office Investigations Unit. "It just doesnt seem like a lost hiker and it doesnt seem like a natural event. "

Detectives and search dogs found a mans decomposed body hundreds of feet from the trail Wednesday morning, the sheriffs office reported.

2008-10-02 Lassies new competition -- Fall City dog helps find missing cyclist

For the next few hours, help is what Wolf did, and now the sheriffs office is crediting him and his dog, Kona, with rescuing a mountain biker who had become lost after suffering a diabetic episode.

The rescue began around 4:15 p. m. when a 33-year-old man called 911 for help. The man had been riding the trails near Fall City but lost track of time. As his blood sugar level dropped, he had become increasingly confused, leaving his bike on the trail and continuing on foot.

The nonprofit organization trains and provides rescued dogs and puppies to people who are deaf or physically disabled. The cost of training each dog is more than usd. 20,000. To aid disabled U. S. soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan, NEADS created a training program that focuses on providing dogs to veterans who have lost limbs or suffered serious injuries affecting their independence and mobility.

CLINTON Clinton Savings Bank is helping the Princeton-based National Education for Assistance Dog Services prepare dogs to aid wounded combat veterans. Throughout October, the bank will lead a fundraising effort to benefit the NEADS Canines for Combat Veterans program.

2008-10-01 Soccer Dogs drop first two SEC matches-Sports

The Bulldogs got going early Friday night when midfielder Mariclaire Fancher gave the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead over Louisiana State. It was the first goal MSU has scored against LSU since 2004. However a dead ball goal right before halftime and a strong second-half performance from the defending SEC Western Division champions propelled the Tigers to a 4-1 victory.

Sunday the Bulldogs met an Arkansas defense that went the entire month of September without giving up a goal, and against State it was no different. Following Arkansas first goal only 15 minutes into the first half, State became increasingly offensive. When the final whistle blew, nine State players were in the attacking third of the field.

She had worked with the National Park Service and took the position of U. S. Forest Service officer in the late 1980s. Friends said she had a special calling with dogs, volunteering to help 4-H students prepare for dog shows during her off days.

We have lost one of our best, and that leaves a void we will never fill," friend and Forest Service colleague Tom Lyons said. "With her death, we all died a little. "

But this past weekend, Boise State found a new way to get under Fresno States skin. It started with the Broncos beating those pesky Oregon Ducks, whove done nothing but cause the Bulldogs problems during the past few years -- from ruining their BCS dreams with close wins to embarrassing them with a blowout victory on national TV.

When Fresno State played at Autzen Stadium last year, the Ducks had a then-healthy Heisman candidate quarterback in Dennis Dixon and a future first-round draft pick in running back Jonathan Stewart. Fresno State lost 52-21.
