I am an animal lover and I would never keep any dog outside in freezing temperatures in an unheated kennel, there is no excuse or justification for this. Although he has a fur coat, it still gets cold for them if the place they are in isnt heated or is too large for their body heat to warm up. When dogs are in the wild they sleep in small dens, this allows their body heat to warm up the area. When a dog is in a kennel and it isnt heated there is no way they can keep warm. Did you ever put on a heavy coat and go outside for hours at a time If you do not remain active, it gets cold. I hope they find him soon or he finds a good home to live in because hes domesticated and his chances of survival in the wild are not good. Hopefully this negligence will not cost the dog his life. I dont care if it costs the city some www.courierpostonline.com

Yeah, this woman is well known in local animal advocacy circles for being an instigator. If you dont agree with her off-the-wall viewpoints or actions, watch out. Her choice for legal representation is also mind-boggling. Don Bailey, legal counsel for a PA dog rescue and dog warden, just LOST the much ballyhooed civil lawsuit against the PA Bureau of Dog Law officials and two puppy millers. Hope they dont counter sue his clients after that big loss. And when this frivolous "lawsuit" is also thrown out for lack of evidence and credibility, hope the big guns of puppy mills dont come after her. local.lancasteronline.com
He said that they teach the dogs aggression work and to bite on command using a bite suit and a bite arm. Both are plastic and foam and covered in a burlap sack. The bite arm covers the entire arm and is used most often. There is also a hidden bite arm that goes under the trainers uniform so that the dogs will not become accustomed to only biting the bite arm material. The bite suit covers the entire body and requires protective head gear. Salinas said they do not use the bite suit to train very often and 90 percent of dogs will bite criminals only on the arm. When the dogs follow commands correctly, they are rewarded with a rubber ball. www.tribune-georgian.com
As chief of the Brunswick Search and Rescue Team, Judah helps train dogs and their owners to receive certification from the state for individual and team search and rescue. Training for a new dog requires three sessions a week. After a dog is certified, training continues weekly. Judah has an area set up for agility training at Carolina Kennels but often finds herself wearing snake boots and hunting clothes to train dogs in briar and brush laden fields. www.wilmingtonstar.com

Have you been with someone who is a "musher" I was one for several years. These dogs are athletes. They were treated with the best care. Each were fed a very high-protein grain and a pound of beef a day. Every day they were checked for sore feet or muscle problems. We also checked proper bedding for their houses. Most were brushed and played with daily. Never were they beaten or whipped. They were given fresh water twice a day with a full dish throughout the day. Their kennels were cleaned daily. They were trained to run not just thrown out in front of the sled and said to pull. After a run, their tails would be wagging. If they were treated poorly this wouldnt happen. Just like a marathon runner theyre built up to endure what they do. I have talked with mushers of the Iditarod and how their dogs are treated and I can tell you www.timesargus.com

Panda is one of more than 100 Alaskan husky racing, touring or retired dogs and puppies owned by Frank Turner and his wife, Anne Tayler. Turner, 59, has run in the Yukon Quest more than 20 times since the races inception in 1984. The annual 1,000-mile (1,600 kilometre) race between Whitehorse and Fairbanks, Alaska, is dubbed "the toughest sled dog race in the world. " The trail follows historic Gold Rush and mail delivery routes along frozen rivers, through isolated villages and over four mountain ranges. Turner and his team of 14 canine athletes won the Yukon Quest in 1995, and his time of 10 days, 16 hours and 20 minutes stood as the race record until it was shattered in this weeks race by Lance Mackey of Alaska. www.canada.com

Patrol judge Vendrick Foster, wearing blue, and the lead-outs trek back after their 13th race in a row during the matine show at the Sarasota Kennel Club. The handlers are constantly in motion during their workday, walking back and forth up the track as they shuffle dogs in and out of races. If the greyhounds dont make it to the starting blocks, the rest of the machine wont work -- its that simple," said Paul Arruda, a paddock judge who oversees all aspects of the greyhounds at the Kennel Club. www.heraldtribune.com

This type of retriever test is based on the rules developed by The Kennel Club of England, the oldest kennel club in the world, and is set up like a days hunt. The major differences in this trial and the ones in Europe are a major increase of water work and the lack of live ammunition. All other rules are directly related to the rules established by The Kennel Club of England 150 plus years ago. www.myeyewitnessnews.com
