2007-07-18 Sports - WFMY News 2 Department of Justice Press Release On Michael Vick

According to the indictment, the defendants were involved in an ongoing animal fighting venture based out of a property located in Smithfield, Virginia, from early 2001 through on or about . The property was purchased by Vick in . Since that time, the named defendants formed a dog fighting enterprise known as "Bad Newz Kennels" and used the property for housing and training pit bulls used in dog fights. From at least 2002, the defendants and others sponsored dog fights at the property, where participants and dogs traveled from South Carolina, North Carolina, Maryland, New York, Texas, Alabama, and other states to participate. Every dog that races in the Iditarod is checked by veterinarians during extensive pre-race screenings and throughout the race. A dog with a serious injury or its beginnings is not allowed to continue. Mushers usually know, even before a veterinary check, whether a dog has an injury. Knowing their dogs as they do, they even know the attitudes of each of their dogs. Dogs do get injured in these races, but so do people doing sports they love. Dogs unable to run, or even no longer eager to run, are "dropped" at any checkpoint. There is a "Cripple" checkpoint in the northern route of the Iditarod race, the route that is run during even years. This checkpoint takes it name from the old gold mining district of Cripple; it has absolutely nothing to do with "crippled" dogs. Dogs that are "dropped" from the race are cared for by veterinarians

2007-01-03 Mayor asked to veto dog ordinance

As for the Louisville Cluster, there is nothing in the law that resticts them from the Show. Their big problem is they just do not want to pay any increases for licenses or kennel fees. There is no provision that restricts unaltered dogs from being shown. People in town or out of town do not have tohave a dog fixed or any special requirments. Lets be hones tfolks the dog show folks are just trying to use their money to make a political point. They are the same people who did not like this thing last year because it was breed specific have nothing to gripe about. Breed Specific is not in there. . But now its "Well it covers unaltered dogs. " My Mom use to say there is no pleasing some people. The percentage of breeders and trainers effected by these changes are small when compared to average pet owner. The responsibile
