2007-09-18 Wichita may limit owners to 2 pit bulls
Wichita Kennel Club vice president Pat Deshler said she doesnt doubt that pit bulls are disproportionately represented as problem dogs for the city. But, she said, the city would be better off to better -- and earlier -- designate dogs as vicious and dangerous, regardless of their breed.
One group opposing the pit bull law is the Wichita Kennel Club, whose members say they support reasonable and enforceable laws governing the ownership of dogs. But the group said it thinks the ordinance should focus "on the deed and not the breed. "

2007-09-17 The Sheboygan Press-Local man wins Hunting Dog Expo
The expo was created as a way to allow gun dogs and their owners an opportunity to tune up their skills prior to the upcoming waterfowl and upland game seasons. It is likely the only interactive event in Wisconsin and certainly one of very few in the Midwest for the average dog and handler to experience tests and games that simulate hunting scenarios or test handling skills. This years event featured seven different sporting dog games for handlers and their dogs to tune their skills and have a good time. Games can be run for fun or for the handlers with bragging rights on their mind for points that lead to the Events championship.

Under Barretts new rules, laid out in a June volunteer handbook, dogs not yet eligible for adoption are now kept in small kennels 24 hours a day, for as long as 11 days if the dog is a stray and up to 21 days for any dog ever registered to an owner.
Theres also a physical health risk. "Dogs will not foul their own space," Gutierrez explained, "and dogs that are confined that long often develop some medical issues from not emptying their bladders at regular intervals. "

Today, PETA sent an urgent plea to LaRue County Attorney Dale Morris urging his office to vigorously prosecute Sandra and William S. Coy of Hodgenville. The Coys face charges stemming from authorities discovery of numerous reportedly neglected dogs on their property as well as the remains of two others--including the bloated corpse of a pit bull who was found inside a kennel and still chained. Reports indicate that 10 surviving dogs had no access to water until the authorities arrived on the scene and that temperatures had exceeded 100F that day. Forty-six dogs were reportedly removed from the premises.
