Then the vet advised hiding the pills in hotdog wieners and for almost a week he gobbled them down so fast he hardly tasted them. But Ben is a smart dog, and he caught onto the ruse. Now when I give him a piece of wiener he spits it onto the floor, gingerly bites it in half to expose the pill and eats the meat all around it. Ive returned to opening his jaws and pushing the pill into the back of his mouth, but Im looking for a better alternative.

2008-08-13 County vet: No quick kill for stray dogs-My Web Times

For the record, as long as I am administrator, there will not be euthanasia on the first day -- except in the rare occasion where the dog is so fractious it is dangerous for anybody to be around it. Thats because my No. 1 priority is to the citizens of La Salle County for their safety. "

Having authority and using it are two different things, Dr. Dell Brodd, the veterinarian who is La Salle Countys animal control administrator, announced at the County Boards Animal Control Committee meeting Monday morning.

2008-08-13 ABC News: Ways to Save on Your Pets Costs

When your pet needs to see a vet, there are options. For example, the most common procedure for cats and dogs is spaying and neutering. If your pet comes from a shelter, this procedure is usually done free. If your pet comes from a different source, you might be able to cut costs by contacting your local animal shelter. People will often donate money, earmarked to provide spaying and neutering services. They will either underwrite the costs or work out a payment plan. Not all offer the same quality of care, so you must educate yourself on how and where the services will be done.

2008-08-11 Letters: Fond du Lac Reporter

I knew that my dog would not survive an hour drive, so I called one last clinic in Lomira Veterinary Village. There was an answering service that took my call and said that a vet would contact me. In a few minutes Dr. Daniel Griffiths called me back and said to meet him at the clinic.

I remember reading editorials in the paper about how the only place that had emergency vet care was in Appleton. My dog was getting progressively worse, and since it was Sunday I knew it would be hard to find a vet, but I needed to start calling, whether it was Sunday morning or not.

2008-08-09 Warning Over Dangerous Dog (from Oxford Mail)

Hi its one of those so called boneheaded irrisponsible owners here. Before you start calling people names you need to get a grip if you think a licence will stop a dog from attacking. Decent owners know dogs are animals not people but they can still be trained better than some humans nowadays. Reasearch the breed before making your pathetic comments and judgements. A properly trained staffy makes the perfect family dog and as a mother of 5 who works full time is not a yob or interested in status symbols or not covered in tattoos i would never put my kids, family friends or general public at risk. I reasearched the breed completely before purchasing my pet. You are just as likely to have problems with a lab or yorkie who is in the hands of irrisponsible owner. Owners must be held responsibe for their dogs actions.
