2007-03-13 Commissioners vote to change leash law, not unanimous, law doesnt pass WWAY NewsChannel 3

Dear "guest" that believes "pit bulls" are bad I have some very great information for you. I would venture to guess that 10 out of 10 times, if you went to local animal controls and asked for the last 5-10 years worth of bite stats you would see that "pit bulls" are not the no. 1 biting dog. I have seen several counties stats and discovered that typically "pit bulls" were fifth, sixth, ninth, tenth, etc on the list of most bites per breed. But you will never believe me and you will never go and look at the stats because you can not deal with the truth. And unfortunately, that goes for most of America today as I see it. Just think what would happen if the media would run and cover EVERY single dog attack/bite instead of only covering what people consider "dangerous" dogs. It would truly be an eye opener.

2007-05-10 The Vail Trail - Lifestyle trends in the Vail valley: music, culinary, arts and entertainment. Commentary

Joggers are another matter. I can think of half a dozen dog-free places to run nearby, starting with the high school track, but thats not enough for them. At least a third of the back-road runners we encounter feel compelled to yell. Bodie is friendly but does look rather feral, and runners tell me that dog owners, even if the critter is a snarling pit bull straining at a log chain, always assure them that the pooch is harmless. So I can see why they might be afraid. I cant see why they need to keep yelling at us after its clear that Bodie means no harm.

2007-05-24 Dog days at Mangamingi - Features - Taranaki Daily News

When you are from what is regarded as "the first family" of dog trialing in New Zealand, missing an island event is a big call, but Dan was happy to leave the representation to his father, Bernard, who is patron of the New Zealand Sheep Dog Trial Association and still competing at age 80, his brother Stephen and his uncle Garry, all three of them past national or island title winners several times over in the case of Bernard and Garry. He knows theyll all do their bit to make sure the event at Mangamingi runs without a hitch.

Our car was good when the sun was out. We started so far back because of my stellar qualifying performance. We were 36th and then dropped back to last and then worked our way up to 27th when the sun was out under green just passing people, so the car was really, really good when it was slick. One of those corners got the shade first and when that happened we got out of balance. We were good in one corner and bad in the other corner and as the track cooled off we got really unbalanced. Billy (crew chief Wilburn) and I kept working with it and Billy made a couple of shock adjustments during the race and a couple of wedge adjustments and we probably didnt get it right until I got the Lucky Dog. When I got up front that set of tires and the way the adjustments came, we were probably 160-170 laps to go. Through the middle 120-130 laps

2007-05-26 PLAYBACK:stl - SEE THE LIGHT - The Shaggy Dog (Disney, PG)

Allen plays Dave Douglas, a family man and assistant district attorney, who has become more concerned with accelerating his career than spending time with his wife and kids. Dave and rsquo;s latest case has him prosecuting Justin Forrester (Joshua Leonard), a teacher who set fire to the Grant and Strictland research facility to protest the lab and rsquo;s unsafe experiments on animals. The lab at Grant and Strictland is run by the evil Dr. Kozak (Robert Downey Jr. ) who, despite claims to the contrary, does in fact run lab experiments on animals. Kozak and rsquo;s latest experiment involves Shaggy, a 300-year-old sheep dog from Tibet, that Kozak believes holds the key to the fountain of youth (I know what you and rsquo;re thinking, and yes, you read that correctly). As luck would have it, Shaggy also has a knack for escape, and is able to leave the

PROSPECT PARK Prospect Park lost its early off-leash hours last week after the city announced official rules governing when dogs can run free in parks. Opponents of off-leash hours said the rules arent enforced anyway, but theyll still call enforcement officers when they see the inevitable crowd of dogs and their owners in the Nethermead after five on weekdays.

Prospect Park, advertised as a dogs paradise on its web site, has long had an unofficial off-leash policy that starts at 5 p. m. on weekdays in the Nethermead, Long Meadow and Peninsula. The evening dog run has become a cherished ritual for local dog owners, who also use the time as an opportunity to socialize with their neighbors.

2007-05-25 Nevada County Local Sports: Run for your life: Run for the Animals record smashed

A record number of participants showed up last Saturday in Nevada City for the Third Annual AnimalSave Run for the Animals races. Two hundred thirty five runners and walkers, 69 with dogs, competed in the 5K and 10K races, substantially up from the 162 in last years event and 98 the year before.

Grass Valleys Judy Alberts remains the only undefeated woman in the GP series this year, adding a 46:13 first place (eighth overall) in the 10K to her victories at the Daffodil and Spring Run 10Ks. Smartvilles Inka Mims took second in the womens 10K and 40-49 AG in 49:10 (tenth overall), which was good enough to keep her first in the GP with 37 points. Kirstin Koch, thanks to Freitas not participating in the GP, took ten first place points while finishing second in the 40-49 AG, third woman in the 5K in 23:26 (15th overall), which kept her one point ahead of Alberts, 31 to 30, for second in that GP.
