2008-11-30 Pet food drive raises usd. 1,500 to help families keep pets - The Times-HeraldThe enormous response amazed hospital owner Dr. Christy Stoffle, who matched the donations with her own usd. 1,500. The 150 bags of Science Diet dog and cat food arrived at the animal hospital Tuesday and were delivered to the Coweta Community Food Pantry. The donated food will help the people who come to the pantry for emergency food supplies feed their pets, too. One of Stoffles long-time clients, Carol Lee Shankel, decided to donate in memory of her dog, Henry, and asked her friends and family to do the same. About two weeks ago, Stoffle said, Shankel brought him in as an emergency. He had a tumor and was dying, and had to be put down. www.times-herald.com

When they arrived at the van on , County staff found three dogs and 20 cats huddled in a "filthy" conversion van. Dog Services staff gathered all the pet carriers they could find and took the dogs and cats back to the Dog Shelter on Kaen Road in Oregon City. Clackamas County cared for the cats for more than week before arrangements could be worked out for them to be transferred to the Oregon Humane Society (OHS) in Portland. 10 were transferred there Tuesday. The remaining 10 will be driven there for adoption on Thursday. The three dogs are in the care of Clackamas County Dog Services and will be held by the county until a final decision is made on the disposition of the case.
