According to Altoona Parks Supervisor Tim Van Wyk, the park features separate areas for small dogs and large dogs. The dog park features a staging area, which prevents dogs at the park from getting loose.

Currently, there is no fee to use the dog park. Altoona Public Works Superintendent Aaron Putnam said the park will be open as long as people are responsible. Future additions to the park, which are currently in the works, include benches on the inside of the park for people to sit on and fire hydrants for dogs.

The parks department would work with dog owners to identify possible locations for dog parks - or "parks for people with dogs" - and would focus on unused portions of existing parks or open spaces, he said. Potential locations include unused areas of Keopuolani Park and Eddie Tam Memorial Center, he said. Drainage retention basins are also large, grassy areas that could be good space for dogs, he said.

Eventually, the county could also work with the state to designate times or areas where dogs could run free on beaches, parks officials said. But first the department is trying to change the law to allow for dog parks, since the county code now requires dogs to be leashed at all times.

2008-09-19 City must decide on the dog park the Observer and Eccentric Newspapers, Mirror Newspapers and Hometown Weeklies

NIMBY - Not in My Back Yard - is running amok in this issue. Everyone seems to want a dog park - but not by their house. Fine. Then drop the idea altogether. Or suck it up and make a decision to put one somewhere. In either case, do something. This protracted process of locating sites only to reject them is frustrating and unnecessary.

The Barnum site would seem to be ideal for a dog park. At eight acres, it offers plenty of room to place a dog park with ample distance from the surrounding neighborhood.

2008-09-19 Voice your opinion tonight on the proposed dog park

During that process, three dog parks were visited. I gave a presentation at the May meeting of the Parks and Recreation Board. An article appeared in the Messenger and The Gazette mentioning the proposal. A handful of residents responded with e-mails supporting the dog park.

Approximately one year ago, the Mount Airy Parks and Recreation Board was approached about dog parks. I offered to research the proposal and brief the board on my findings.

My mom read me your article in the Sept. 2 edition, and I just cannot agree with Susan Overfield. I believe this is an awesome addition to Great Falls, and Im sure pet owners that decide to use it will make sure its as clean of an environment as possible. My mom has taken me to other dog parks and weve never encountered any dogs that wanted to fight or bite. I think those are the dogs Overfield was referencing when she was talking about dogs that dont get the attention from their owners that they should. And if they do come, they will have to behave just like we do in any other city park or they will not be able to come back.

2008-09-18 WTEN: Albany, New York News, Weather, Sports-Clifton Park Passes New Leash Law for Dogs

The only exceptions to the new leash law is if your dog is in your yard, or if you are walking in one of the towns two dog parks; either on Kinns Road or Mary Jane Row.

Last night the town board passed a new law requiring dog owners to have their dogs on a leash at all times.

People caught walking their dog in Clifton Park without a leash could end up spending time in jail.

2008-09-18 Unleashed dog park proposal denied-Newton, MA-Newton TAB

On Tuesday, a proposal was made to the Parks and Recreation Committee for a six-month trial to incorporate an off-leash dog park, a first for Newton, within Cold Spring Park. The dog park would sit on the -acre old ball field, which is bordered by Beacon Street and Beverly Street.

McIntyre said that for the meeting, the proposal would need to incorporate information about a regular weekly cleanup (which we already do every day, McIntyre said), install a mini-mutt station (to dispense the cleanup bags), coordinate a sign at the park to display rules, and that all dogs will be required to have ID tags.

2008-09-18 The Ottumwa Courier-Dog park approved

OTTUMWA Since dogs have such good hearing, they probably heard the unanimous vote Tuesday night by the Ottumwa City Council approving the off-leash dog park.

The dog park concept had already been approved by the Parks and Recreation Board.

Under proposed rules, a dog owner would pick up and dispose of the dogs waste. Also, an owner must show proof of vaccinations and city tags.

If something were to happen, say a dog seemed harmless, but then something happened with another dog or what be, who would be responsible she asked.
