Sigh. A franchise that had led dormant for a few years gets resurrected again with another bloody big dog cajoled out of its kennel in exchange for some biscuits. It and rsquo;s a cruel world.

2008-08-21 For Lucas, its Wars without end-Entertainment News, Film News, Media-Variety
Among its biggest fans, "Star Wars" has always been something more than just the movies. Still, for those who steadfastly defend later incarnations -- insisting that Jar Jar Binks was hilarious or the hokey scripts were perfectly OK -- as Triumph the Insult Comic Dog observed while interviewing die-hards on "Late Night With Conan OBrien," "Heres a spoiler: You will die alone. "
Granted, Lucasfilm would hardly be the first enterprise to benefit from transforming movies or TV shows into "products" for the express purpose of peddling toys and videogames, so why pick on them youd like to think that Lucas -- with his Force-gotten gains and thinly veiled disdain for the current movie business -- would feel less encumbered by strictly commercial calculations. Hes spoken more than once over the years about quietly retreating to make small, personal films. Or maybe he should take up a hobby, like his contemporary Francis Ford Coppola, who funneled his spare time into a vineyard.
George Lucas, I wish you knew how to quit us. An oft-cited aspect of the Star Wars legend involves the directors foresight in claiming sequel and merchandising rights during that far-away time before the movie world was awash in them. Wilson and his fellow actors didnt only want the music to be good, they wanted the audience to believe they were performing. "Theres so many disconnects in Hollywood movies, even in Almost Famous, as great a movie as that is, the music kind of sucks. I mean, who remembers Fever Dog as a song"
People are really digging this movie. I dont know about reviewers, its not like the most original movie in the world, I guess, but its such a feel-good, fun, old-fashioned romp and audiences go crazy for it. I think, also, movies nowadays are very R-rated and dark . The Rocker kind of feels like a John Hughes movie, a fun for the whole family kind of rock comedy. "

Last but definitely not least is Halloween music. Ive been building my collection for years, but for starters you can get a simple halloween sounds CD and put it on repeat. Chains, howling, screams make furniture cleaning services young ones shake in their boots. The old ones (including parents) find it amusing but neat. I like to throw in a mix of halloween songs like monster mash and of course what Halloween would be complete without a little Danny Elfman. If youre not familiar with Mr Elfmans work, he has done soundtracks for some of the scariest movies out there. Google him and see what comes back.

When I watch movies where they give bloodhounds a childs shirt and the dog tracks the missing tyke through two and half reels, across streams and brooks, through the malls and back alleys and finds the little one, unhurt, in the bad guys house (you know its the bad guy because the music they play in the movie is a giveaway), I compare that dogs abilities with my olfactory prowess and realize truffle sniffling is not ever going to be on my short list of jobs I can handle (or want, come to think of it).

As Morrissey once opined, we hate it when our friends become successful. Well, some of us also hate it when our favourite books become successful movies. Can there be anything worse than lovingly engaging with a couple of hundred thousand words of prose over perhaps two or three weeks, drinking in the authors dialogue and descriptions, creating your own vision of the work in the privacy of your head, only to have every man and his dog (special offer on Tuesdays at your local Odeon) blast your intellectual ownership of the book out of the water after spending 90 minutes
