2008-08-27 Animal Oxygen Masks Save Lives ABC News 4
An animal cant get out of the house because hes going to be trapped in there with the smoke and if were not able to give him oxygen to help him then that dog, cat or other animal is not going to be able to live, so oxygen is very important," said Engineer Andrew Maciver of the Mount Pleasant Fire Department.
The Invisible Fence of Coastal Carolina donated five pet oxygen masks to the Mount Pleasant Fire Department. The masks are worn just like human ones and allow the animal to breath in an emergency situation. In 2006, nearly 40,000 pets died in house fires, many as a result of smoke inhalation. The oxygen masks should help reduce those numbers.

LYNN - Animal Control Officer Kevin Farnsworth said he is currently investigating a tip from an anonymous caller about Thursdays dog attack in the hope of catching the suspect and his bloodthirsty dog.
If the suspect and the animal are located, Farnsworth said the standard 10-day quarantine would apply, including a hearing process regarding the dogs status.
According to a police report, the suspect and his dog, which Farnsworth said fit the description of a pit bull, lunged at Clem and her German shepherd and bit her hand as she tried to shield her dog.
There were heartbreaking tales of animal mistreatment, some touches of humor and an allegation of slander. But no vote was made by Durhams Board of County Commissioners Monday night following an extended public hearing on a proposed ordinance change that would ban tethering animals.

The dog was, in fact, at the shelter, having been picked up early in the morning on the July 1 as a stray. Because the dog was not wearing any identification and was not microchipped, there was no way to notify the owner that he had been picked up. Staff could not assist the family when they called other than to advise them to come in after the long holiday. July Fourth is the busiest and longest weekend of the year for the shelter because of animals being frightened by fireworks. The shelter even paid overtime to staff to come in on Sunday, July 6, so they could return pets who had identification if the pet could be traced and their owners reached that day.

I totally understand the idea of not having dogs at events, but I feel for every 100 responsible dog owners there are always three or four that ruin it for everybody," Latta said. "I feel it should be up to the committee hosting the event. I dont think this should be a city issue. "

Woolard cited trial testimony about 30 incidents in which one or both Presa Canarios lunged at, chased or bit other dogs and people, with one or both owners looking on and seemingly unable to control the animals. She noted that Knoller had appeared on ABC-TVs "Good Morning America" shortly after the fatal attack, accused witnesses of fabricating, and suggested Whipple was to blame for her own death.
When Knoller and Noel took custody of the dogs in 2000 from prison inmates at Pelican Bay, the judge said, a veterinarian warned them in a letter that the animals were huge, untrained and "a liability in any household. "
