We have recently left a house in which the dog behind us barked constantly night and day. Mainly it was because the owners never interacted with the dog. If they did interact it was telling the dog "no" or "bad dog". This went on for years, winter, summer, night and day. I do not think the dog ever went into the house, the owners may have put it in the garage 2 times otherwise it was outside. We complained, we talked to the people, let them know it was disturbing to have the dog bark all the time. Nothing happened. We called Animal Control, were told they need to have documentation from 2 other neighbors complaining of the problem on 3 seperate occasions and we need to write down the exact times and days the dog barks. www.gjsentinel.com

Most of the time, when a barking dog is a nuisance, its because the dog is being put outside with no supervision. Some dogs are just put out into the yard, where they feel a need to defend their "territory" against other dogs, squirrels, birds, bicyclists, mail carriers, and anything else they see. I am very sorry for Jazz that she couldnt "continue to have a good life". Im also sorry that Jazzs extended human family who loved her so much and who took on the responsibility of caring for her as a puppy, made the decision to shirk their duty of continuing that care to the end of her life. There are many apartments and mobile home courts that allow pets. Jazz had to have been at least several years old if your husband had her when he was growing up. Chances are Jazz wouldnt have been adopted even if she had been at the shelter for several weeks. Most people prefer puppies and kittens and are not willing to adopt older animals. Older animals have a slim chance of adoption and if she was a big dog, then her chance of adoption would be even less. I dont think that anyone is comparing dogs to humans. I think that we are saying that if you treat a dog nice a dog will be nice to you. Its all in how you interact with a living being. As far as a dog sniffing his and every other dogs butt, its what they do. Banning pit bulls wont make children and our neighborhoods safer. While Animal controls limited resources will be spent focusing on one breed of dog, the real problems of animal control will be further neglected. Enforcement of the leash law, education for responsible dog ownership, and offleash dog parks will make the difference. Put your money and focus on that. Fortunantly my dogs are familiarized with other animals and people. Let me tell you its the owners that need to be trained prior to owning any of these types of animals. My dogs have been attacked by small dogs, pit bulls and because of there training, they do NOT bite or fight back. Its sad to see your dog being mauled and when u have a dog that is either rott or pitt the owners of the other dogs thinks its ok for there pet to attack mine. I too have to walk my three loving dogs with a bat in hand for the next attack. Even though they are of the so called vicious breed, they are very loving animals.
