Still, the total number of day care slots available in the region increased by 145 in the same period, Lillo said. As a result, parents in the Chippewa Valley and across the nation are telling day care providers they must scale back or abandon their services, with some families turning to grandparents for care, some changing work schedules so the kids can stay at home and others pulling children out while laid-off parents look for new jobs. www.leadertelegram.com

2008-11-17 The Daily Citizen, Dalton, GA - Study: No downturn in child care economyThis study has been ongoing," said Debbie Mann Rector, executive director for 33 years of Whitfield County-Dalton Day Care Center, which is nationally accredited by the National Academy of Early Childhood Programs. It shows that the child care industry does have an impact on the economy. Also, sometimes people dont realize what an impact a quality child care program is making with the young children that we serve. Research shows quality early learning in children, along with working with the families will help children be more successful in school and, hopefully, more productive citizens. The parents we serve, whether working or going to school, have a peace of mind knowing that they are leaving their children in a quality program. This in turn makes them a better employee. Its a win-win situation. A www.northwestgeorgia.com

2008-11-06 Paying for child care not hopelessThis is a hard subject all the way around. I agree with alot of lozanolisas comments but we should not throw out the baby with the bath water. Not all the people on assistance or welfare are there for a free ride. Some are and they are the ones who should be targeted. With two kids of my own we paid over a thousand a month on daycare. After my wife lost her job and determining that job searching would only pay than half of what she was making, we decided that it was better to tighten out belts, go without daycare and her paycheck. Instead she still worked harder for free being at at home mom. Volunteering at the school, keeping the kids homework up to date, making sure the budgets were kept and met. Our lifestyle changed but after we got used to it going with only 1 source of income was the best thing we ever did. Do I www.mysanantonio.com
